About Us
Our Story
In the quiet suburbs of Surrey, BC, an ordinary family—Alex, Galina, and their three children—began a new chapter far from their hometown of Novokuznetsk, Russia. Arriving in Canada with little more than a few suitcases, a deep love for their culture, and Galina’s cherished recipe book, passed down from her mama and babushka, they set out to build a new life.
At first, the family struggled with the language and the unfamiliar cold of their new home. But they soon realized something was missing in their neighborhood: real, hearty Russian, Ukrainian, and Eastern European food. The borscht here tasted like soup from a can, and no one even knew what kholodets was. They longed for the traditional flavors of home—the comforting dishes that tell a story of their heritage.
So, in a small, rented unit near the Skytrain station in Surrey, they opened Galina’s Euro Food. With shelves stocked with Borodinsky bread, jars of homemade pickles, fresh pelmeni, and smoked kolbasa, their small shop quickly became a beloved spot. Word spread fast—locals, both curious Canadians and nostalgic expats, lined up to taste Galina’s pelmeni and homemade piroshki.
The shop became more than a business; it grew into a vibrant community. Elderly immigrants gathered to chat in Russian, while second-generation Canadians learned about the foods their grandparents once made. What began as a way to survive became a thriving business—one that keeps their heritage alive, one warm loaf and one dumpling at a time.

Galina's Euro Food is one of the best if not the best Eastern European food stores in the lower mainland. Every experience I've had visiting the store has been nothing but kindness and help. The ladies who work there are helpful and respectful. I went in to get the usual borsh and pelmeni and came back later on to get ingredients I forgot for oliveir salad and the lady directed me to the right kinds of ingredients I needed. She was very sweet. It's incredibly easy to find what you're looking for since everything is organized nicely and neatly. Prices may come off as a bit expensive, but when you go home and cook the food, you can tell that its worth the price with the amount of meals you can make.

I love this place so much! Is it my grandma's perogi? No of course not. Is it the next best thing money can buy? Yes! I used to feel they were expensive but I did the math and I get three huge meals for less than $10 each. Im fat though a normal person could make it 4 meals haha. I get the bag of cottage cheese salted perogi and a thing of sour cream. I do not like normal sour cream like Lucerne but this stuff wow. So creamy. I'm never going to have the time or energy to make my own perogis so thanks guys.

This place is certainly not cheap, but we totally enjoyed everything we bought, including sweets, which can be hit and miss at other Russian food stores. All the products here were fresh and tasty!
